IT'S "MODERN ACOUSTIC" (with a bluegrass flavor) in February when Head For Hills stops by Uncle Slayton's on the 7th. This Colorado quartet follows the trail first blazed by Newgrass Revivial way back in the Seventies and which has been solidly tramped upon by luminaries including David Grisman, Leftover Salmon and even, dare we say it, Bela Fleck and the Flectones. (Colorado has proven to be the fertile ground for that sort of acoustic music.) They're touring in support of their 2010 CD, Head For The Hills. Tickets are a mere $8

DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS HAS survived all manner of personnel changes, including the kind of dance with a subsequently more-famous musician (Jason Isbell) that has doomed other bands, not to mention the burden of being named Band Of the Year in 2002 by No Depression magazine. Having to live up to Southern Rock Opera doesn't make things easier, either. Nonetheless, they have kept on touring and putting out albums, the latest being 2011's Go-Go Boots, which they will play for you at Headliners on February 9. Tickets are $25.
